Keerthika Govindhasamy, popularly known as Keerthi History is a Youtuber who creates content on history. She was born in Kerala and did her schooling from Tamil Nadu. While her exact date of birth is not known, she is around 25 years of age and currently is living in Uttar Pradesh. Her mother tongue is Tamil. She can understand Hindi, however, English is her preferred language other than her mother tongue. Her English accent is quite similar to South Indian people. Keerthi says that her primary motivation to do YouTube was because she wanted to talk about the real history of the nation that most Indian students were not exposed to during their school education. She opines that the history that has been taught during her school time is a filtered one mainly because the subject is written in a matter to favour the people in power. Keerthi has gained significant traction on the Internet but there are many interesting things about her which you may not have read before. Family, Siblings, Upbringing & Education
Keerthi’s parents are in their fifties and she has two brothers. Her father is an anklet maker. In an interview with Beerbiceps, Keerthika said that she used to be a bright student in her school days however, was never a favorite student of any teacher. The lesser brighter students of her class were more favourite to her teachers because they were obedient. 1
Her brothers were very average in their studies and would just pass the exams. Despite her being a bright student, her parents would never boast about Keerthika in front of others. They also ensured not to compare the brothers with Keerthika in aspects of exams marks and school performances. She wanted to be an archaeologist from childhood but her parents wanted her to become a doctor. The aspiration of her parents forced her to take Maths and biology in classes 11th and 12th. However, after getting a seat in the medical college, Keerthika then stepped back 2, and decided to go for graduation in History against her parent’s wishes. However, her parents agreed to it finally. While Keerthi desired to pursue Archaeology, she opted for History as no college was offering the subject of Archaeology in Tamil Nadu and her parents were not willing to send her to far places to study Archaeology.

After her graduation in history, her parents wanted to get her married. But Keerthika refused. This upset her parents to the extent that Keerthi’s father and she had not been on talking terms for nearly 6 years. To earn a livelihood, Keerthika worked as a tuition teacher, receptionist, and even as an electrician. Later on, her YouTube channel took off, and recently she got an award from the Prime Minister himself in the category of National Creators Award in the category of Best Story Teller.
Keerthi’s Youtube Journey, Income & Networth
Since Keerthika Govindhasamy had a graduate degree in History and a huge interest in sharing Indian history, she started to upload Indian history-related videos on YouTube back in 2022. Her initial videos did not gain traction but Keerthika continued to post videos. After 8 months, one of her videos went viral and her channel took off. Today her subscribers are close to 2 million with only 201 videos. Her videos gets an average of 200K+ views but she uploads 5 -6 videos only in a month. Considering an average RPM of $1 for Indian traffic, one can says that her monthly YouTube earnings could be close to Rs 1 Lakh a month for nearly 1 million views. Keerthika’s opinion on Dating and Dating Culture in Tamil Nadu
Coming from Tamil Nadu, Keerthika opines that she doen’t believe in the dating culture. She believes that love has to happen organically and not in the way that one has to go out and meet someone for the sake of dating. According to her, dating could be prevalent in Chennai but not in other parts of Tamil Nadu and that the local people rarely use apps like Tinder and bumble. In fact, if people are found using Tinder and dating apps, they are likely to be frowned upon.
She also says that if teenage boys and girl are caught seeing each other in bars, they are likely to be slapped or likely to be told to go home if seen in rural areas. And that falling in love means that one is serious to marry the other person. Casual dating is a big NO NO in Tamil Nadu.
There are many cultural differences between North and South India and the approach to a life partner is extremely different. During an interview, Keerthika opined that Tamil parents are strict in keeping children away from seeing each other in a romantic way. And even the concept of dating after passing through teen years is not encouraged. Bringing your relationship partner to your house is far from being even considered. So when a boy or girl opens up about their partner to their parents, it is expected that the two people are looking to get married. The culture of dating is discouraged to an extent that a young guy and girl seeing each other can even get slapped by someone in the bar. School boy and girl, if are seen roaming around together in rural areas, they are likely to be told to go home.
While South Indian women desire romance, tamil guys and men often express it through actions rather than verbally. Keerthika cites that this is how men usually behave with their partners in Tamil Nadu.
Discipline and Ethics
Keerthika emphasized that people in South India, are extremely concerned about discipline, behaviours and ethical conduct. Recalling about an incident of her childhood, during the parent’s teacher’s meet, the discussion used to center more around Keerthika’s behaviour and discipline rather than her performance in studies. At one time when she was in 4th standard, the school authorities took her small Jhumkas that she wore and Keerthika’s father had to travel back and forth to the headmaster for nearly 6 months before getting them back. After that incident, she never wore jhumkas during her school time.

What is her Opinion about Sadhguru?
Sadhguru is a very famous personality from the South Of India, and considering his popularity you may believe that he enjoys default respect and followership, especially from the local people. Keerthika however denies it and says that spiritual gurus, especially the Hindu ones, like Sadhguru are generally not seen in a positive light until and unless people get to know about them. She cites her own example when her uncle made her listen to Sadhguru. However, Keerthika straightaway refused to listen to Sadhguru’s teachings the moment she saw Sadhguru’s photo due to her pre-conceived notion that Atheists people are more knowledgeable and rationale unlike spiritual gurus, mainly the ones who are preaching about Hinduism. Her uncle asked her to make up her own mind after listening to Sadhguru’s teachings and to her surprise, she formed a completely different opinion and ideology of Sadhguru after five days which was different to the belief she had. She took up Isha’s courses during the holidays after her 12th standard and gained significant understanding of how the foundation’s administration works in adherance to the laws, especially when it comes to land area.
Her views on Hindi Language
In the interview with BeerBiceps, Keerthika stated that while she is not Anti of Hindi language but opines that the people should speak their local languages most of the times. Citing her own example when she visited Maharasthra, she states that people were talking to her in Hindi whereas tourists in Tamil Nadu mostly talked in Tamil language only. She believes that Hindi language has the power to replace all the local languages and therefore people need to converse more in their local languages otherwise they may forgotten altogether like the local languages that were once prevalent in Bihar 50 – 60 years ago. Today, peopel in bihar mostly speaks Bihari.
Keethi’s Boyfriend
Keerthika is unmarried as of writing this post. As of now, its not clear who is her boyfriend or whether she is dating someone.
Biasedness towards North Indians
Keerthika acknowledges that there could be biasedness from South Indians towards North Indians because of the wrong perception being instilled in the minds by the politicians. She cites from her own experience, that at one time she saw a poor North Indian person was mocked verbally by a local conductor in her hometown.
Pet Lover
Keerthika is a pet lover. She posted a heartfelt post on Instagram when her cat died. She adopted it in 2019. At that time, Keerthika wasn’t very well mentally and physically. Despite her best efforts in trying to save the cat, the doctor advised her to put to sleep.
